2016 proved to be a success year for Fury FC at the gates and in the community. Beyond the 100,000+ fans that came to TD Place, the nation’s capital’s club had tremendous success in the community through numerous programs and initiatives, perhaps none greater than the introduction of the Fury F.I.T. Program – Fanatics In Training.

The Fanatics in Training (F.I.T.) program was launched to create new partnerships with soccer clubs in Ottawa/Gatineau.  The concept of the F.I.T program is to support the growth and development of grassroots soccer through customized programming and shared resources.

“We found great success in year one with the F.I.T program,” said Audra Sherman, Head Coach, Elite Girls Program & Community Engagement Specialist. “Community organizations and youth soccer clubs were very receptive to the idea of collaborating resources to grow community soccer programs.

“Grassroots soccer is our foundation and we need to ensure the base is strong so that professional soccer thrives in Ottawa,” added Sherman. “The Fury FC players who took part in the F.I.T program are not only talented professionals on the field, but passionate and positive teachers of the game.”

In collaboration with clubs & sports organizations, 36 programs were implemented in 2016. Boys and Girls recreational and competitive players of all ages participated in different activities, such as:

  • Team technical training executed by Fury FC Professional players and staff (Players attend club teams training sessions and lead age/developmentally appropriate sessions to assist in technical and tactical development of youth players striving to one day become professional players)
  • Specialty clinics (Remote Goalkeeping clinics, Team/group Goalkeeping training, Human Performance Clinics
  • Summer Camps
  • TD Place Clinics: Boys & Girls attend a 2-3 hours clinic at TD Place (skill-based exercises and small-sided games lead by Fury FC coaching staff, players and the Elite Girls)

The Fury F.I.T Program will be back for a second year in 2017 bigger and better, with some new programming and Fury FC players attending the training sessions once again.
